LESLEY AHWANG

Lesley will be leading the cultural aspect of the graduates’ journey, bringing her deep knowledge and experience to the program.

*A proud descendent of the Bidjara and Kairi tribes and the Badugal people of Badu Island, Torres Strait. 

*Currently an Advisor with the University of Queensland Library, specialising in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collections and Services.

*Previously worked at the State Library of Queensland Indigenous Services for nine years, playing a key role in establishing and supporting a network of Indigenous Knowledge Centres across Queensland.

*Former leader and educator in the Culturally Safe Libraries program, implemented by National and State Libraries Australasia (NSLA).

* Co-author of the University of Queensland Black History publication.

Lesley’s expertise and cultural leadership will be invaluable in guiding graduates to connect with and honour their heritage throughout their fitness and wellness journey.

TONY ATTRIDGE

This award was given to Tony Attridge for excellence in Vocational Education over an extended period. In particular working with incarcerated First Nations people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds to assist them in improving their lifestyle and social mobility.

*Tony is passionate about improving the quality of service provided by the fitness industry and does his part to ensure there are well-educated professionals out there.

*Tony has lectured into Exercise Science programs at major universities in Australia and delivers education courses to students in Correctional Centres and High Schools across Queensland .

*Qualifications:

  • Degrees in Human Movement and Education.
  • Masters in Sports Psychology. 
  • Registered Level 3 Elite Strength and Conditioning  Coach.
  • Level 2 Altitude Training Coach.
  • Certified nutritionist through ISSN and is also ISAK qualified. 

* This unique combination of skills allows Tony to implement specific training principle’s and understand his clients’ needs and perspectives. Therefore on a deeper level empowering them to perform to their utmost potential.

* Tony is a co-author of “Fitness Trainer Essentials for the Personal Trainer” which is now in its 4th edition. This textbook aligns with the Australian curriculum for personal trainer accreditation, and is utilised in most personal training courses across the country.

*Tony has trained Olympic and Paralympic Games and Commonwealth Games athletes for a number of years, including athletes who have medalled at these events. He has also trained a range of other elite-level athletes and sub-elite level athletes, including bodybuilding and powerlifting competitors.

*Tony has been honored with two prestigious awards in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of vocational education.  In February 2024, he received the Vocational Educator of the Year award at a ceremony in Dubai, hosted by Education 2.0.  This achievement was followed by the College’s recipient of The Vocational Education College Excellence Award in December 2024.  These awards mark the latest in a series of notable recognitions bestowed upon The College of Health and Fitness throughout its 23-year history. A testament to the this Institutes  commitment to excellence in vocational education.
